Mother is now but a memory, but the sensibility that it so brilliantly embodied
and preserved is still around, albeit without the galvanizing community center,
stage, showcase, launchpad (pick your metaphor) that the club provided. So it's
up to all of MOther's children to make sure that the stultifying combination of
bad stuff in the world today globalization, the death of the political left, the war
on drugs, the truly unreal real estate market, the mainstreaming of irony, etc.
doesn't completely choke the bohemian spirit.
