Milk .... Give Me Three

The majority of our elementary schools are serving one percent milk for breakfast and the students have made the healthy adjustment to less fat in their milk. The following schools are serving low fat milk for breakfast: Barnard Brown, Betances, Burns, Burr, Clark, Dwight, Dwight Annex, Fisher, M.D.Fox, Kinsella, Milner, Moylan, Parkville, Rawson, Sanchez, SAND, Simpson- Waverly, Twain. Webster, West Middle (Main building) and Wish. These schools participated in another breakfast milk promotion which includes "Got Milk" gifts during the months of April and May. Although all milks are good sources of calcium and vitamin D, in whole and two percent milk, those nutrients come with too much artery clogging saturated fat. By choosing one percent or less, students and adults get all the good nutrition of milk--- with little or no fat.
Teen Roll Call

Bulkeley, Hartford Public and Weaver High Schools are participating in Teen Collectors Roll Call, a program designed to combat the teen calcium crisis. Students entered the Roll Call contest to win a spot as one of five regional teen milk ambassadors. New England Dairy and Food Council will choose the ambassadors to act as spokes people with the local media to discuss the importance of drinking milk and the fun of collecting the Milk Mustache advertisements. The Food Service Department had displays about calcium and a milk challenge in the cafeterias at the three high schools.
