CMT Celebrity Breakfasts

The Food Services Department coordinated CMT Celebrity breakfasts at all the elementary schools. The fourth and sixth grade students were encouraged to eat breakfast with a school celebrity each morning before the test. Thanks to all the celebrities that included the principals, vice principals, social workers, nurses, custodians, secretaries, paraprofessionals, and teachers, more students ate breakfast. Studies show that eating breakfast helps students do better on tests. We hope our celebrity breakfasts helped.

Vegetable Tasting Parties

With a grant from the Stop and Shop Grocery Store, our Department is sponsoring vegetable tasting parties to encourage students to include more vegetables in their diets. We have served ten to twelve different, bite size portions of vegetables, to more than 4,900 students so far this school year. We have held the tasting parties at Barbour, Webster, Parkville, Twain, Kinsella, Rawson, Hooker, SAND, M.D.Fox, and Naylor.

National Geography Week

The Food Services Department celebrated National Geography Week with special menus in the Elementary Schools Friday, November 21. Maps, posters, and banners decorated the cafeterias during the week of November 17-21, and they will be available for distribution to teachers at a later date.

Character Education Program

To help students develop good characteristics, the Food Services Department has teamed with the Health Education Department in the Character Education Program, at Burns, Burr, Fisher, Fox Middle, Hooker, King, Naylor, SAND, and Webster schools. Our department staff is encouraging good behavior in the cafeteria and rewarding students for displaying positive characteristics. Look for the trait of the month displayed in the cafeterias, November-Respect; December-Caring; January-Courtesy.
