Container gardening can be done anywhere! Any type of container can be used. Use your imagination and be as creative as you want. Course, there will be some issues you will encounter--drainage, soil, sun, water, etc. Here is a little, and I mean little, information on those topics.

Good drainage is a must--you don't want plants sitting in water -  unless they are plants that can survive in water like a spider plant for example. Soil composition is important for good drainage. I have a special recipe for most containers--hanging plants do need to be lighter, course, then you need to water more often because they will dry out quicker unless you use a water retention medium such as more vermiculite and perilite. See soil for my special recipe.

Plants can be varied but I always use an odd number of them. If you pick up plants for a container in the shade, make sure all plants are good in the shade. Same for sunny plants--all the plants in the container should love sun.

These containers are on my hot deck and need watering everyday on hot summer days.
