Check out the reference page for the site where I found this map. I live in zone 5/6 and depending on if you live in a valley or not will will decide on when you get your first frost. It is always colder in the valleys and by the rivers. A friend of mine lives only seven miles away from me but she lives off a river and on low lying land--she gets a light frost a week before I do every year. Another reason I get a later frost is because the ocean is not that far away and keeps the land a little warmer in the winter too.
