Dr. Smith is from Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He graduated from Cranwell Prep School in Lenox, Massachusetts and went on to earn a BS in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University in 1966. In 1968 Dr. Smith entered the US Army, and on his return from Vietnam pursued an MBA until making the decision to enter dental school in 1971. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1975.

After working as an associate for two years, Dr. Smith selected Hampton, NH as the location for his general dental office and has been practicing here since.

Dr. Smith has participated in many continuing educational activities since dental school. He has served as Chairman of the Continuing Education Council for the New Hampshire State Dental Society, and has held many offices, including President of the Southeastern Dental Society.
