The BHNA can organize concerted action on local issues. Some current neighborhood concerns are: parking proposals under consideration in Town Hall; construction and traffic around LHS; street lights; proliferation of telephone pole cables; and replacing lost trees. A neighborhood association can integrate and enliven the community. The BHNA will arrange social activities and block parties. There will also be special-interest events and opportunities to meet local candidates for elections. Neighborhood associations are proven. The Merriam Hill, East Lexington and South Lexington associations are social focal points and are very effective in Lexington affairs. Decades ago, the old BHNA stopped a plan to extend the business district all the way to LHS, and prevented a development plan to replace many of the houses on Parker and Forest Streets. |
