To: BelfryHill Date: 16 October, 2002 Subject: Noise concerns for some of our neighbors Dear Neighbor, Some Parker Street residents have requested a hearing before the Town's recreation committee tomorrow evening to voice their concerns about the back-board at the tennis courts. The back-board is of hollow ply-wood construction, so it generates a very audible report each time it is struck by a tennis ball. Over the past few years, early morning use of the back-board has steadily increased, and it is has now become a serious nuisance to several households on Parker Street. The hearing will occur after 7:30 in room G-15 of the Town Hall. ON WEDNESDAY, 16 OCTOBER. We would be grateful to any concerned BHNA members who can find the time to attend the hearing and support our neighbors. Although this is truly a local issue (none of the BHNA directors are affected by the noise), we believe that this is exactly the sort of issue for which the BHNA exists. If the association can help individual neighbors get reasonable remedies for local concerns, a better quality of life for all in Belfry Hill is assured. Joseph Lehar will attend the hearing, as the BHNA's representative, to support the residents' cause, and to propose that either: 1) the town restrict the opening times for the back-board to a more reasonable schedule (presently 7:30am to sunset) and that they undertake reasonable measures to mitigate the noise (either by installing a less noisy back-board, or by filling the hollow space with sand), or, 2) the town move the back-board to the south side of the tennis courts, where it will cause less disturbance to residents. The directors, BHNA.
