Center Parking Proposal

(updated 20 February 2002)

Last year, the town Engineer's department retained a consulting firm to assess on-street parking in Lexington center. The purpose was to determine whether limited parking was causing problems for area businesses, and to propose remedies to the situation.

The consultants issued a report last autumn, but the results were only announced this January, and two town hearings were held to present the findings. One hearing was to deal with the impact of parking changes north of the center, while the second discussed changes south of the center. The announcements can be found here, and the full text of the draft parking report can be found here (PDF).

The meetings were both heavily attended. Here is our summary of the second meeting's proceedings, as well as the Town Engineer's minutes for both (MS-word or text). The Town Engineer also prepared a report on the meetings, which can be seen here (MS-word or text).

A working group has been established, with representatives from the Town, local businesses, and all affected residential areas. No final decisions will be made for the next few months, and then only after a single, large meeting for all the neighborhoods. Our representative is Paul Asquith, of 25 Clarke St. Please contact him or one of the directors if you have any questions or suggestions.
