Descendants of William Cutting

Mr. William Cutting

William Cutting's origins are unknown, beyond what is recorded by Rev. William Bentley, that he was a mulatto, was a slave and acquired his freedom and his land in Concord Village (Acton) on the death of his master. Apparently the earliest reference to him in the Acton town records is his being elected hogreeve at the town meeting of  22 march 1735/6. his wife was admitted to full communion in the Acton Church on 4 February 1738/0, by dismission from another church, but the church records do not say what other church,

William Cutting (or his son) of the same name) was appointed to a committee in March 1779 to provide for families of Acton's solders serving in the Continental Army.  His very impressive gravestone ("price 21 pence") is in Woodlawn Cemetery
