COURSE DESCRIPTION: Grade 7

In seventh grade, French students develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a second language. The course offers student opportunities to experience the customs, history, art and music of the target culture.

By the end of the year, we will cover the following key concepts and skills during this class:

1. Cultural discussions will take place through the study of the following topics: greetings, numbers, family, time, cafe etiquette and food, weather, daily activities, preferences and needs.

2. The following grammatical concepts will be covered: present tense, interrogatives, negation, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, number and gender.

The major resources used in this class include:

Activity book, tapes, videos, games, speakers, realia, field trips, related software.

COURSE DESCRIPTION Grade 8:

In eighth grade, French students review and build upon the skills learned in the first half of the two year program. The expansion of fluency and cultural awareness along with an understanding of the value and enrichment a foreign language offers in our interdependent world are the primary goals of instruction.

By the end of the year, we will cover the following key concepts and skills during this class:

1. An extensive review of the seventh grade material.

2. Cultural discussions will take place through the study of the following topics: food, meals, people, possessions, travel, shopping, and leisure activities.

3. The following grammatical concepts will be covered: possessives, past tense, implied future, partitive, demonstrative adjectives, irregular adjectives, direct object pronouns, and indirect object pronouns.

The major resources used in this class include:

Spanish

COURSE DESCRIPTION Grade 7:

In seventh grade, Spanish students develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a second language. The course offers student opportunities to experience the customs, history, art and music of the target culture.

By the end of the year, we will cover the following key concepts and skills during this class:

1. Cultural discussions will take place through the study of the following topics: greetings, numbers, personal information, family, time, description, school, food, pastimes and hobbies, sports, animals, clothes, and preferences..

2. The following grammatical concepts will be covered: number, gender, negation, adjectives, possessives, interrogatives, present tense, progressive tense, implied future, and irregular verbs..

COURSE DESCRIPTION Grade 8:

In eighth grade, French students review and build upon the skills learned in the first half of the two year program. 3. The following grammatical concepts will be covered: irregular verbs, regular/irregular affirmative commands, idioms, regular/irregular belerit, reflexives, ordinal numbers, adverbs, demonstrative adjectives, superlatives, and comparatives.
