Hydro Power Contest


2005 PRIZES

Hydro Power Contest competitors (an individual or team entering a device) have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes. Awards are available for the following six categories of competition:

Cash Prizes

The highest-ranking competitors after the final round of competition will win cash prizes in accordance with the following schedule:

The judges may, at their discretion, make additional cash awards for the entry that they deem "Most Innovative," "Best Workmanship," and/or "Most Improved." If awarded, these cash prizes will be $250 each.

More Cash!

The Hydro Research Foundation will distribute cash prizes to some Student winners totaling approximately $700.

Scholarships

Canada Centre for Mines and Energy Technology / Natural Resources Canada (CANMET) is offering one $1,500 (CDN) scholarship to a Canadian student or student team which wins one of the Student Division competition classes.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is offering two $2,500 (US) scholarships to US students or teams which win first place in the Student Division classes.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Power Division Hydropower Committee is offering two $500 scholarship to students or teams which win second place in the Student Division classes.

All scholarships are available to winners based on meeting student eligibility criteria.

Travel Stipends

HANDS-ON! Projects is offering six $500 travel stipends this year. Three Canadian and three US competitors may win stipends to assist students from their colleges to travel to the next Hydro Power Contest, which will be held in Portland, Oregon.

Software

ANSYS, Inc. has provided one Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software package plus training for the Student Efficiency winner's school.

Autodesk has provided five of its AutoCAD LT software packages for Student Divsion winners.

Hydro Info Systems has provided two sets of its turbine selection software, TURBNPRO to two Student Division winner's schools.

MathSoft has provided five sets of its powerful mathematics software, MathCAD, one for each Contest category.

DSP Development Corporation has donated five sets of its data analysis software, DADiSP, one for each Contest category.

Books

The ASCE Hydro Power Committee has provided a library of twenty books and other publications from ASCE Publications.

HCI Publications has provided four of its technical books as prizes.

Magazine Subscription

All competitors will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Hydro Review magazine. Hydro Review is the premier publication of the hydro industry.

Shirts

All competitors wil receive a complimentary Hydro Power Contest tee shirt.

Contest Sponsors
