UTILIZATION OF SUPPORT
All levels of support need cash and in-kind contributions. Below are
brief descriptions of support needs for the Hydro Power Contest. Please evaluate these specific opportunities
as you consider the level of support that you can contribute. If you have
a particular project that you wish to support, please contact us with your
request.
Baseload Support
- $10,800 in cash prizes
- Hydropower Technical Book and Reference prizes
- Hydropower, Energy, and Engineering Magazine Subscription prizes
- Laptop Computers, Engineering Calculators, and Engineering Software
- Staff personnel for Test Stand setup, teardown, and operation
Run-of-River Support
- $3,000 in Travel Stipend Awards for Student Division competitors -
Offering travel stipends to colleges which repeatedly send contestants
to the national competition will promote continued faculty interest.
- Scholarships for Student Division winners - Students often appreciate
college tuition scholarship prizes more than cash.
- Hydropower Seminar and Project Tour Stipends for Open Division winners
- Since Open Division competitors are often industry professionals, we feel that winners should be rewarded with professional development
opportunities.
Peaking Power Support
- Improvement Projects - There are several Contest Improvement Projects to tackle this year: Portable Test Stand, Faculty Curriculum Guide, and Modular Impulse Turbine.
- Engineering Society Trade Show exhibits - Eight engineering and professional societies assist in promotion of the Contest to their student and faculty contacts. All eight societies host annual student and faculty conferences. Exhibiting the Contest at these conferences will increase student and faculty participation.
Pumped Storage Support
- Major printed promotion to be circulated to 3,200 student and faculty contacts
- Advertising in industry and engineering society publications
- HydroVision or Waterpower Exhibit Hall Booth and accessory supplies
- Test Stand preparation and shipping
