Here is a list of Books and other documents of interest to descendants of Deacon Stephen Hart. I have included what I know about the availability of these books. Some are out of print, while others are available, either as original editions, or as photocopies. Sources where the books or copies can be purchased are included when I know them.

  • A History of Cornwall, Conecticut A Typical New England Town, Edward C. Starr, B.D., New Haven, 1926, 547 pages.
    Solomon5 and John5 Hart (Dea. John4, Capt. John3, John2, Stephen1) settled in Cornwall about 1765. They and many of their descendants lived in Cornwall. Out of print.
  • Ancestors and descendants of certain branches of the HART, COLE, SWIFT, and COOLEY Families of STANWOOD, CEDAR COUNTY, IOWA, Kenneth Greg Hart, 1992, 255 pages.
    This book, published by the author, presents the ancestors and descendants of Frank Clement Hart9 (Clement8, Noah7, Seth6, Noah5, Joseph4, Thomas3, Stephen2, Dea. Stephen1) and his wife, Emma Cole. This book includes considerable information about relationships with European royalty and American presidents for descendants of this line. Noah7 is listed in his father, Seth's6 entry in the Andrews book with no information about him. Out of print.
  • Farmington in Connecticut, Christopher P. Bickford, The Farmington Historical Society, Second edition 1988.
    Here is all the information you could ever want about the early years of Farmington, Connecticut and the people who lived there. Stephen Hart and many of his descendants are referenced. The book is available at The Millrace Bookshop, which is located in the mill that Deacon Stephen Hart built in 1650.

    Contains a single reference to Stephen Hart nd his children in the will of Judih Morris
  • Genealogical History of Lovira Hart, Sr. and his Ancestors and Descendants,1605 - 1976, Hildred J. Hart, B.Sc., Centerville, Michigan, 1979, 216 pages.
    Lovira6 (Elihu5, Dea. Ebenezer4, Dea. Thomas3, Capt. Thomas2, Dea. Stephen1) was listed in Andrews book as a son of Elihu about whom nothing was known. This book provides information about this line. Out of print.
  • Genealogical History of Deacon Stephen Hart and his Descendants, 1632 1875, Alfred Andrews, Esq., Hartford, 1875, 606 pages.
    This is the book that every descendant of Deacon Stephen Hart must read. It is relatively accurate, but like many similar books,it was missing some information at the time of publication. I have much of the book on-line now, with many additions and corrections, at http://www.ultranet.com/~harts/family/andrews/index.shtml. Photo copies of the book are also available at Tuttle Antiquarian Books, Inc.
  • The Hart Dynasty of Saybrook, Marion Hepburn Grant, A Fenwick Production for the Old Saybrook Historical Society, 1981, 104 pages.
    This very interesting book presents many interesting stories of Rev. William Hart4 (Rev. John3, Capt. Thomas2, Stephen1) and his descendants. Rev. William Hart was the minister for a Saybrook church. He and his descendants were community leaders and they were involved in the revolution and the early shipping industry and the early US navy.
  • Hart Family History - Silas Hart, His Ancestors and Descendants, William Lincoln Hart, Alliance, Ohio, 1942, 197 pages.
    Silas Hart6 (John5, Dea. John4, Capt. John3, John2, Stephen1) is only mentioned in Andrews book as a son who disappeared. This book fills in much of that line. A photocopy of this book is available from Blair's Book Service
  • One Bassett Family in America with All Connections in America and Many in Great Britain and France, Buell Burdett Bassette, Springfield, MA, F. A. Bassette Co., 1926.
    This book has a section that contains a copy of most or all of the public record of the activities of dea. Stephen Hart and a few of his descendants. A photcopy can be purchased from the New England Historical Genealogical Society.
  • The Great Migration Begins, Immigrants to New England, 1620-1633, Robert Charles Anderson, Published by Great Migration Study Project, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1995.
    An entry for Dea. Stephen Hart is found in this book. It is available from New England Historic Genealogical Society.
  • William Watson Hart and Ida Rockwell Hart, William Lynn Hart, published by the author, April, 1978, 24 pages.
    William Watson Hart8 (Leffert7, Abner6, Gideon5, Joseph3, Serg. Thomas3, Stephen2, Stephen1) Lived in Girard, PA most of his life. This booklet presents information about the ancestors and descendats of William Watson Hart (1853-1898) and his wife, Ida Rockwell. Out of print.
