CHRISTINE RANNENBERG, who arrived in New York aboard the "Athena" in 1858, is without question the sister of immigrant Georg Christian Ludwig Rannenberg: Dorothea Christianne Rannenberg. We know that Georg's sister came in through New York 1858, that she dropped her baptismal first name "Dorothea" and instead used the name "Christine", and that she would have been 28 years of age at the time of the Ship Athena's arrival. (ref.: Christianne Rannenberg's great grand daughter: Miriam Hayes, 2247 Albany Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117, in 1995.)

It is intriguing to consider the possibility that CHRISTIAN RANKENBERG, who arrived at New Orleans aboard the "Washington" in 1858, could have been immigrant Georg Christian Ludwig Rannenberg. The "k" could easily be a transcription error, since the name Rankenberg is not known to exist anywhere else. We know that Georg was was known as "Chris" in family and other matters. (ref.: his Grandson George Rannenberg) And the New Orleans Port of entry for the Ship "Washington" agrees with a family tradition suggesting that Georg married and/or met Appolonia Ritter in St. Louis, perhaps before his arrival in New York. (ref.: Marguerite Rannenberg)

But the listed age of 44 is wrong, it should be 34 for Georg. And the year 1858 is somewhat late, we are almost sure that Georg immigrated about 5 years earlier. Oh, well.

The immigration record of Georg remains a mystery, yet to be solved by one of his present day descendants!
