I am a harpist, and among some of my harp activies are helping to plan
the 1994 American Harp Society Conference. You can see the
tentative schedule to see what concerts and seminars are planned.
- I also do random gigs such as weddings, luncheons, parties, and
special events. Here is a photo of
Jazz
harpist Deborah Henson-Conant on the cymbals as I accompany her on
her harp, taken at the 1993 Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony. Also, from the
Dirty Linen tour schedules come a listing of
Deborah's upcoming concert dates. To see the recent winners of
the Ig Nobel Prizes, check out the Mini-Journal of
Irreproducible Results.
- There is also a harp mailing
list, which I maintain, of harpists, harpers, harp builders and
harp enthusiasts from all around the world. To subscribe to the
mailing list, send email to harp-request@mit.edu. Here is some
information from the harp mailing list.
I play the guitar, with a particular interest in fingerpicking folk
music (Christine Lavin
-
tour
schedule,
Megon McDonogh - tour
schedule,
Suzanne Vega
,
Paul Simon
, James Taylor, Sara
Hickman). I've found some pretty decent music books from some of
theses artists, but I have also transcribed some of their songs, since
I can't memorize their stuff off the recordings without having them
down on paper.
If anyone out there would like to sing in a folk duo, let me know!
I'd love to do some stuff of John & Mary (John Lombardo and Mary
Ramsey from
10,000 Maniacs)
- check out their stuff!!
Here's some acoustic music info I find pretty neat:
Whatever happened to the violinists mailing list? Anyway, I do some
violin/viola gigs every once in a while also, from shows to chamber
music to orchestras. One thing that would be fun is to serenade
somebody, but no one has hired me for that yet (nor have I mustered
the courage to do that on my own!).
