Massachussets Ave carries medium traffic. Lanes are wide enough for most cyclists. Those not confident in traffic may prefer sidewalks outside of Lexington Center. East of Rt 128, Mass Ave ascends a 3% grade, 75 ft. in 0.5 mi.
1. One alternative route from the east end of the park is on back-roads and dirt paths to the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, then east to Lexington center.
2. Another scenic route to Lexington center crosses a reservoir from Lincoln into Lexington, then via the Old Res.
3. The Battle Road Visitors's Center has an excellent multimedia presentation on the advance warnings give by horseback riders of the British troops march to Concord on April 19, 1775, and the Minutemen from many surrounding towns that did battle with them on their return that afternoon to Boston. The Battle Road Interpretive Trail runs 5.5 miles from Fiske Hill at the east end to Meriam's Corner at the west end. It has a stone-dust surface. The Visitor's Center is 1.0 miles from the east end.
4. Hastings Park is the scene of concerts by the Lexington Bicentennial Band on Thursday evenings in the summer. A thousand attend. Kids and parents march around the bandstand.
