Lexington Minute-Man April 20, 1978 The Lexington Recreation Committee and the subcommittee on bicycles held an open meeting on Thursday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in Room G-7 of the Town Office Building to discuss the following proposed pathway:
The route begins at the Town Offices parking lot. Signs will designate the bike route, along Fletcher ave. to Hayes lane. The Lower Vine Brook bicycle path will run through conservation land to Brookwood Rd. Bike route signs will direct the rider along Fairfield Dr. to the resumption of Lower Vine Brook bike path.
Signs will designate the crossing at East St. following along Emerson rd. to the present Adams St. bike path which will be paved. At this intersection of Adams St. signs will mark the bike route south to Westwood Rd. west on Millbrook Rd. to Suzanne Rd. and then south to Emerson Rd.
The path will then follow Emerson Rd. to Brent Rd. to Hathaway Rd. The route follows along Hathaway Rd., Sedge Rd. through Diamond Junior High on the path on the north east.
The route leads out the driveway to the junction of Hancock and North Hancock Sts., and then follows Hamilton Rd. to Ledgelawn Ave. It continues southeast to Revere St. and southwest on Revere St. to its end.
The routing along Bedford St. follows the north sidewalk to Harrington Rd. From here the cyclist is asked to walk his bicycle in the center business district.
An alternate routing continues south from Bedford St. via Worthen Rd. marked by painted bike lane graphics to Waltham St.
South from Worthen Rd. a new path follow the easterly side of the Lincoln St. playground to join the existing path from Bakin Rd. through Bridge School past the reservoir to the Marrett Rd. sidewalk to Bridge St.
Bike routing will follow Bridge, Payson and Grassland Sts. to Valleyfield St. A stone dust path and wooden bridge will be constructed to the Waltham St. crossing. The bike route follows Brookside Rd. to the Clarke School playgrounds and connects to Franklin School.
