The Worcester County Section Women in Engineering affinity group, the IEEE WPI Student branch, and the WPI Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering will host a networking breakfast with Ms. Land on Thursday morning, December 6th from 8:15am to 9:45am on the WPI campus. Ms. Land will share with attendees her insights on career fulfillment for technical professionals: the opportunities, the challenges, the rewards, and the fun. Ms. Land will discuss the successes and satisfaction that technology professionals can expect from a career in Engineering and Computer Science, and the important role active participation in professional organizations have in achieving career goals.
Ms. Land works for MITRE, a not-for-profit organization chartered to work in the public interest. Prior to joining MITRE, Ms. Land served as the Program Manager for America’s Army, a multi-online game environment funded by the U.S. Army.
Ms. Land has over 20 years of Information Technology related work experience including information management systems programming, database systems development, and enterprise application programming. Ms. Land was recently elected to serve as the 2009 President of the IEEE Computer Society.
Ms. Land has extensive experience implementing software process improvement and is a recognized expert in this area having published several books on the subject to include: Practical ISO 9001 Software Process Documentation- Using IEEE Software Engineering Standards, Practical CMMI Software Process Documentation- Using IEEE Software Engineering Standards, and Jumpstart CMM/CMMI Software Process Improvement - Using IEEE Software Engineering Standards.
Ms. Land has a BS, The University of Georgia, 1984, and numerous certifications.
Time / Place:
The Women In Engineering networking breakfast will be held at WPI in Atwater Kent Laboratories, room AK 218, on Thursday morning, December 6th from 8:15am to 9:45am. Ms. Land's informal presentation will start around 8:30am. A continental breakfast will be served. Directions to WPI.Campus map.
