The Golden Horde consisted of two main divisions. The
Blue Horde, which descended from Batu
Khan, grandson of Genghis, dominated in the first half of the
14th Century and the White Horde, which
descended from Batu's brother Orda, played a significant role
in the latter part of the century. Around 1360 there was a
period of turmoil in which the descendents of a third brother,
Shayban, contested for power (and some coins from this period
are shown here). After 1500, some remote descendents of Shayban
established a state known as the
Shaybanids.
