My Current Pilot

Uneventfully named "firstenc", my current pilot started his career in Sol, making cargo runs from there to Lalande. Knowing that any substantial profit would not be made for several hundred years, he turned to smuggling: narcotics and such from Lalande into Sol. After several months of this, with the occasional military mission out around Arcturus, he made enough to upgrade to a Viper - the meanest ship of its class. I had it outfitted with a 1MW beam laser, a single shield generator, and a class 3 military drive. Obviously, I was pretty much rolling the dough (relatively speaking).

My pilot used his trusty Viper to further his military career and for the occasional bounty hunting. Most of my activities were centered around the southwestern Federal systems with occasional forays up into Altair, Eta Cassopiea and so on. For quite some time I did nothing but military missions, which quickly got me the rank of Corporal and a few slightly more dangerous missions delivering secret orders. However, while I had been trying to further my elite ranking throughout the entire game, I was only at Average by this point (if memory serves) and so I decided to take a break from the military and instead focus on bounty hunting.

During my days as a smuggler I had occasionally ventured up into Altair to sweep out all the pirates. I now returned there to begin making a name for myself. Having destroyed all pirates in the system, I ventured northward into Vega, Encea, and eventually an anarchic systems whose name escapes me. After weeks of successful hunting, I return to my old stomping grounds competant. However, continuously buying large amount of military fuel and the occasional repair job had begun to noticeably affect my savings (not dangerously, bur money is money). Thus, I began intermixing military runs and bounty hunting with the occasional assassination. Not only are hit-jobs the most exciting missions before the high secrecy military ones, but they pay extremely well. My last job, for example, paid 17,000 credits, and cost me only 2,000 in damages and fuel.

Unfortunately, before I could get to those well paying missions, I simply had to get a bigger laser. My Viper had a mere 9 tons of free space and so an upgrade was inevitable. I searched around for a Cobra MKIII and eventually bought one in Sol since there are good shipyards there. The Cobra was massive and provided plenty of space for a 4MW beam laser plus additional extras or cargo. However, and much to my disdain, I found that the Cobra was so slow that I was unable to complete many of the military missions, which was a major requirement for any ship in my mind. I reasoned that the Cobra MKI might be a decent compromise between the MKIII and the Viper, but instead it was the worst of both worlds: too slow for the military, and not large enough for a decent gun. I needed a ship with just a bit more space than the Cobra MKI, and a lot faster. As you may know, the only ship that fits the bill, is the Moray, a truly glorious ship. I found a nice purple one out in the independent systems and outfitter her with everything form the Viper plus an extra shield generator, a laser cooling booster, and a 4MW instead of a 1MW. This is still my current ship and I expect to keep her for a while since there isn't anything (besides cargo hauling) that she can't do.

So if you see a purple Moray flitting through your system with a spool of military wire hanging out the back, you'll know it's me.
