If you are partial to the classical sound of tenor saxophone (rich, full
toned, lyrical and sexy) you are probably already a fan of tenor saxophonist
Houston Person and want to know about his latest CD offerings for 2000 on
the High Note label.
In A Sentimental Mood (HCD 7060) and Together at Christmas (with Etta Jones) (HCD 7058) are pure Houston outings in terms of addressing the melodies sentimentally and with a reverence only engenders. Joined by his regular band members, Stan Hope on piano, George Kaye on Bass and Chip White on drums, they all show their familiarity with the American Songbook as they weave their collective way in and out of favorites on anyone's list of ballads.
Houston and Etta Jones revisit holiday standards on, Together at Christmas . The long musical and recording association between Etta and Houston is evident as he flawlessly accompanies Etta's inimitable phrasing and tenderness on these much loved holiday tunes. These Cds make a welcome and worthy addition to the collection of music lovers anywhere.
