Kirk Whalum

WARNER BROS 9 47887-2

Now 'til Forever; Groverworked & Underpaid; God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You; Unconditional; Can't Stop The Rain; Song For Evan; I Try; Playing With Fire; Real Love; Waltz For David (45.21)

Kirk Whalum, tenorsax, altosax, keyboard; with various backing including Tony Maiden, guitar Paul Jackson Jr., guitar; Greg Phillinganes, keyboards and others.

This is a product of today that could be described as music for movin' and groovin'. It comes from the Grover Washington/Bob James area of Funk Jazz which most suits the dance floor of a discotech. The music has little variation and is hardly related to the Jazz genre at all. Apart from the relentless playing of Kirk there are occasional snatches of solo guitar and vocals, but nothing good enough to rescue the fate of this recording.
