Poncho Sanchez, congas, lead vocals; Ramon
Banda, timbales; Tony Banda, bass, background vocals; and far too many musicians
to mention.
This is a double CD compilation culled from eighteen of the twenty CDs Poncho
Sanchez made for Concord Picante. Latin dance party is exactly what it is;
plenty of congas, bongos, timbales going for all they are worth in this
bright upbeat set. The Jazz element is strong in the horn sections; tight,
soaring trumpet solos, purposeful trombones and good, throaty saxophones
offer us plenty of improvisation in the Latin style. This is music that
will get you on the floor; whether it is a rumba, a cha cha cha, mambo or
a funky blues, you will have to dance to it. This is happy music, carefully
arranged and well executed; if you love Latin and need that background filled,
this is for you.
