This is a great powerful big band, led by a superb trumpeter Rob Parton. The tunes and arrangements are just fine, with Soon, On a Misty Night, Speak Low and Blue Daniel having particular appeal. The soloists, which number nearly everyone in the band, are quite superb and even though bass player Tim Fox and drummer Bob Rummage are not credited with actual solos, they provide steaming support with imagination and élan throughout the CD. A really worthwhile big band album, which excites and pleases the ear from start to finish.
