The Hot Club of San Francisco

Paul Mehling, guitar; Evan Price, violin; Joe Kyle, string bass; Dave Ricketts, rhythm guitar; Michael Groh, rhythm guitar.

The quintet plays original pieces from the pen of lead guitar, Paul Mehling. Django Reinhardt would be well pleased to watch his music go from strength to strength; the combination of Gypsy music, Jazz and swing played at speed, encouraging violin and guitar players to really stretch out, is infectious and very pleasing to the ear. The Hot Club of San Francisco offers us an enjoyable set; once settled they have a homely, accessible feel about them. Playing with a sense of controlled abandon they caress their way through waltz and swing on these ten original tracks. Mehling, on guitar, and Price on violin shoulder the melodic content while phrasing some sensitive interplay. I enjoyed "A Little Waltz for Misha", fine expressive violin playing from Evan Price. They all play with a sense of warmth and love; a cozy CD this one.
