Devotion, a tasty, contemporary brew of global sounds fused with Jazz, soul, R&B and electronica, is the latest CD by U.K. saxophone virtuoso Courtney Pine.
On this CD, Pine plays a wide range of instruments, including saxophones, clarinet, flute, Wurlitzer piano, Hammond organ, percussion and EWI. Tabla and sitar are added to this already spicy mix - note the exchange between sitar and saxophone on the delightful Translusance. The CD also features vocals from U.K. artists Carleen Anderson and David McAlmont on 2 of the tracks. Devotion is Pine's first U.S. album in 7 years and for him, the highlight is "the originality of bringing together so many cultures into one positive and unified whole." Pine very successfully brings these diverse cultures and elements together and the result is a highly enjoyable listening experience with broad crossover appeal.
