Lynne Arriale Trio

Arise

Motéma MTM71372

Lynne Arriale, piano; Jay Anderson, bass; Steve Davis, drums.

It is quite astonishing the amount of wonderful female Jazz pianists that seem to abound at this time. That 'size does not matter' really does seem to apply; on liners they appear slight, demure, even bashful; until they play; such power, dynamic energy and passion. Here we have Lynne Arriale, leading her trio through a sparkling set, her connection with them is so complete it seems they are extensions of her fingers. A flashing bright opening with "Frevo", immediately puts down the mark that here is a talent to be reckoned with. Her music has openness, a freshness that is keenly felt, one is drawn to listen. Her poise over her instrument is finely balanced, sometimes the music is simple, carefully placed chords that draw you into their message. Sometimes the music flows like cascading water, it is always tuneful, intelligent and full of heart. Four of the tracks are her own; everything gets her special treatment. A woman to watch and a CD to buy.
