Blue Vibes

Herb Gibson, vibes, vocals; Cedar Walton, Spencer Allen, Leonard Thompson. Soli Ashkar, piano; Walter Savage, Chris Amberger, bass; Larry Hancock, Donald Bailey, Curt Moore, drums; Patrick Flynn, Keb 'Mo', guitar; Graham Bruce, trumpet; Mel Martin, tenor saxophone.

Vibes player Herb Gibson swings along with some strong group playing with constantly changing personnel in a quartet, quintet and sextet format. "You've Changed" with the quintet presents a decent piano solo from Spencer Allen and Gibson adding color with his splendid contribution on vibes. "Holy Land" is a heavier swing, the piano support this time coming from Cedar Walton; the same quartet plays "Please Send Me Someone To Love", with Gibson on vocals. "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" is the only track to feature the muted trumpet of Graham Bruce. "People Make The World Go Round" has a more urgent appeal, working up a head of steam to deliver the message. "The Comeback" rounds off the set with Gibson again singing as the quintet swings out with some style. A straightforward vibes-led Jazz set with some good contributions all round.
