Danny Federici, keyboards and organ; Daniel de los Reyes, percussion; Jon Johnston, guitar; Juan van Dunk, bass; Todd Parsnow, guitar; Mike Cates, saxophone; among others.
Danny Federici was a founding member of the Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and has performed with the band for over thirty years. He has now recorded his second album of smooth Jazz, which he has indicated is his personal preference. As a child, he was classically trained on the accordion and was introduced to Jazz by an accordion instructor.
The first three originals ("Light Is Calling," Two Oceans," and "Maya") are good examples of Federici's judicious use of space on keyboards. Things get funky on the cover of the Rolling Stones tune "Miss You" with Federici's groovy articulation on the B-3 organ and a soulful saxophone solo. The expressive guitar accompaniment on "Fragments of an Afternoon" speaks to the atmosphere inspired by the fleeting moments of an afternoon. The title cut "Out of a Dream" is a probing composition with Federici displaying rhythmic color on organ and keyboards that is echoed by the saxophone.
This CD, comprising ten cuts, is a laid-back instrumental soundscape of smooth Jazz that will be welcomed by fans of this genre.
