There is a compelling and powerful new trumpet voice on the scene today belonging to twenty-seven year-old, Warren, Ohio, native Sean Jones. With his sophomore Mack Avenue release, entitled Gemini, we are witnessing this prodigious talent take his place at the forefront of Jazz.

On this CD, Jones has surrounded himself with superbly talented artists, including the gifted Tia Fuller on alto sax and flute and the incomparable Mulgrew Miller on piano. From the blistering heat of the opening track "Gemini," to the bracing hard bop of "In Her Honor," and the majesty of "BJ's Tune (Life in the Hand, Divine)," Gemini is a multifaceted affair, showing off Jones's burgeoning compositional skills as well as his interests in funk, R&B, blues, and gospel.

Jones currently teaches at Pittsburgh's Duquesne University and has recently been chosen as lead trumpet for the prestigious Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra by artistic director Wynton Marsalis. Keep your eyes and ears on Sean Jones. He is definitely one to watch.
