Laurent Medelgi, leader of this trio, and composer of 6 of the 9 tracks, hails from Paris, and spent time in England involved with the New/Wave rock scene. Now based in New York City, this recording captures his trio in a live club setting. The music is all straight ahead modern bop, with the influence of John Abercrombie, Kenny Burrell and the lighter side of John Schofield discernable. Along with the originals the trio takes on three standards with much history behind them, Stella by Starlight, All Blues and Billie's Bounce. All Blues receives the most successful treatment, with the guitar only hinting at the melody prior to a round of solos. A recording for a lively dinner party, if not for serious sustained listening.
