Remembering Patsy Cline

MCNF 02430 2

Vocals; Natalie Cole, Norah Jones, Amy Grant, Diana Krall, Michelle Branch, Lee Ann Womack, k.d. lang, Terri Clark, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Patty Griffin, Jessi Alexander, Martina McBride with Take 6.

Patsy Cline only recorded for eight years; but here we have twelve of the best giving their all in a powerful and emotional representation of her work. They must have been pleased to be given such material to enhance in their own way. They certainly went to town on it, whether it was the light skittering Country and Western of "Back In Baby's Arms", sung by Amy Grant; still a haunted shadow over it, but as light hearted as this set gets. Diana Krall handles "Crazy" with a light Jazz nuance; Lee Ann Womack stretches out a bluesy, agonised "She's Got You"; k.d. lang's gently handles "Leavin' On Your Mind"; Terri Clark gets stuck in to "Walking After Midnight"; Patty Griffin manages to sound like Patsy in "Faded Love"; Jessi Alexander encourages a tear with "So Wrong" and Martina McBride enjoyes great harmonic backing from Take 6 on "Sweet Dreams (Of You)". This is sentimental melancholy at its best, with the bonus of twelve different voices and styles to enjoy. Don't listen to it all at once though; you will be no good for the rest of the day.
