Gene Cook

Something New This Christmas

Gene Therapy Records GTR 10001 2

Gene Cook, vocals; Ben Di Tosti, piano; Jack Bruce, bass; Dick Weller, drums; Janelle Sadler, guest vocalist.

Being a man, my Christmas panic usually starts roundabout Christmas Eve; here at least, is a chance to have one gift in place on time. Gene Cook, backed by the excellent Ben Di Tosti Trio, creates a warm and laid-back atmosphere for this selection of seasonal songs. Gene gives the impression that if you were a small person, you would trust him with your hand to guide you across a busy road. There are three original songs written by Ben Di Tosti, and Janelle Sadler helps out with some of the vocals. "White Christmas", in smart waltz time and with great piano, is a good track; "Let It Snow", "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", "Jingle Bells", "Silent Night", at total of twelve songs. Dick Weller on drums and the bass of Jack Bruce are just right, and the inventive and melodic piano of Ben Di Tosti would enhance any CD. Gene sings with unruffled feathers and a sense of style. Buy it now; it will fit into any stocking.
