The Michael Franks Anthology

The Art Of Love

Rhino R2 73856

Michael Franks, vocals; and artists too numerous to mention.

Michael Franks takes us through a two-disc discography of thirty-one of his songs. This Southern Californian born vegetarian songwriter has a mellow, amiable style. He writes well, and offers here some of his best from over the years. "Popsicle Toes" was a hit; later taken up by Manhattan Transfer. Many artists back him in the thirty-one songs. A Fender Rhodes is mostly chosen to replace the piano. The vibes add color and many of the songs have a string- section backing. There is not a great deal of dynamic change in the style, but this is what he does; and he does it well. It is warm, comforting listening.
