Mort Weiss (cl), Ron Eschete (g), Dave Carpenter (b), Roy McCurdy (d)
This is smooth, uncomplicated modern Jazz with the accent on melody and swing.
Playing to an audience always gives a musician a bounced response as to how his playing is being received. These accomplished players are both relaxed and daring in their choice of improvisations.
Although Mort is the titular leader, he gives ample opportunity to his three cohorts. Ron Eschete is one of today's rising star guitarists, and Dave Carpenter one of the most assured bassists on the West Coast. On this occasion the trio is joined by veteran drummer Roy McCurdy, whose playing has enlivened many sessions throughout the Jazz world. Roy gives inspired support and some tasty solos to this live entertainment.
Mort shows his capabilities in differing tempos and moods but seems to make the best impression when laying back on the beat and being cool. "Stella" provides opportunity for a magic moment.
A treat for followers of both Jazz clarinet and Jazz guitar alike.
