Audrey R. Goldstein
Retired Marblehead Teacher
Audrey R. (Gordon) Goldstein,
71, of Needham, died February
8, 2005, after a lengthy
and courageous battle against
stomach cancer.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Goldstein
was the daughter of the late
Earl and Florence (Hyman)
Gordon.
A native of Everett, she
graduated from Everett High
School in 1951. In 1972,
she received a bachelor of
science in English, followed
by her master of art in non-western
history a year later from
Salem State College, where
she graduated with distinction.
Mrs. Goldstein’s working
career included an administrative
assistant position for the
U.S. Air Force for almost
10 years. She spent 23 years
teaching in Marblehead, first
as an English and history
teacher at the junior high
school and then as an English
teacher at Marblehead High
School for 17 years.
Mrs. Goldstein lived in
Marblehead for 20 years and
Salem for 10 years. Soon
after retiring in 1996, she
moved to Needham. Most recently,
she worked as an ESL teacher
at Newbury College, as a
teacher at The Showa Institute
in Jamaica Plain and as an
independent tour guide in
the Greater Boston area.
She was a member of the Greater
Boston Tour Guide Association,
National Educators Association
and the Massachusetts Teachers
Association and was a life
member of Hadassah.
Mrs. Goldstein is survived
by her husband of 51 years,
Saul Goldstein; her children,
Eric and his wife, Amy Goldstein,
and Sabra and her husband,
Steven Sherry, all of Needham;
a sister, Rena Krane; and
five grandchildren, Max,
Andrew, and Daniel Goldstein,
and Alex and Ariel Sherry.
Funeral services were held
February 11 from Temple Beth
Shalom, Needham, followed
by burial in Chelsea Chevra
Kadushe Cemetery in Everett.
Arrangements were by the
Goldman Funeral Chapel of
Malden.
