Sinistar

"Run, Coward!"

Game: Sinistar
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1982
Type: vertical raster upright

Sinistar has a cult following. The game is popular for it's villian, the Sinistar, after which the game is named. The menacing speech sound effects have scared many weak-willed players from ever playing the game again!

The game has a unique piece of hardware: an optical 49-position joystick that controls not only the direction of the spaceship, but the speed at which it travels. In the game, you mine asteroids for crystals which are used to make Sini-Bombs, the only weapon able to damage the Sinistar. But legions of workers and warrior drones are out to thwart your efforts. The intense and unique game play, along with the excellent speech effects, make Sinistar an excellent game.

I purchased a NOS overlay for mine and installed it. However, this overlay is the rare "ships" version (as can be seen on the cover of the Sinistar manual). Most Sinistar cabinets have the "lines" version of the control panel.
