Game: Tac/Scan
Manufacturer: Sega/Gremlin
Year: 1982
Type: vertical color vector upright
You control a fleet of seven ships, all flying and firing in unison. You must guide your fleet safely through waves of decending enemies and down a warp tunnel...just so you can do it all over again! During play if you lose a few ships, you can pick some up along the way or add more ships to your fleet from your reserve. If you run out of ships, the game is over.
Tac/Scan is one of the games from the Sega/Gremlin Converta-game line. My Tac/Scan is actually an Eliminator which was converted. The game play of Tac/Scan is very unique. Unlike most vertical scrolling shooters where your ship "slides" from side to side, you actually "tac" your ships back and forth, changing their heading, allowing you to fire to the left and right while avoiding enemies.
This cabinet is a Converta-cabinet. A kit was released for each of the 5 Sega vector games, and each one could be played out of this cabinet. At one time I had all the kits, including both versions of the Eliminator upright kits and Zektor (except for the control panel and bezel).
