It's been a while since my last review (still mourning over the numerous loss of celebrities--the creator of "Gillian's Island" death and all...). However, there has been an upsurgence of new snacks which are taunting me, so I must devour them. BTW, my Andy Capp boxer shorts came in this week (3 proofs of purchase plus $8.95. What a bargain!), so stop by my office to check them out.

This weeks review:

Sun Chips French Onion Flavor

For those of you not familiar with Sun Chips, they are multigrain snack chips (mostly corn, wheat, and whey...no curds) which came out around late 1987. After 10 years, they finally have decided to expand their small product line of these chips.

Most multigrain snacks have the flavor of posterboard, but that's the trade off for letting blood pump through your arteries efficiently, as opposed to having them choked off by Cheetos particles. To offset their bland flavor, Frito Lay is attempting to incorporated their Sun Chips with the flavor of French Onion, one of the more elusive flavors to emulate, in my humble opinion.

These chips are....not good. I was hoping for more of a French Onion dip flavor, but Frito Lay took in the other way and went for the French Onion soup side of the spectrum. I wish they had mentioned which one they were going for by specifying it on the bag! Ruffles does so by showing a bowl of dip with a chip in it.

For those of you with a French Onion craving, try the Ruffles that are in the vending machine instead. They have Lipton French Onion recipe this week, which is not as good as their original, but a much better choice than the Sun Chips. And those clogged arteries? That's nothing a doctor with a balloon and an air hose (and a couple grand) can't fix.
