Sep 1978 VHF QSO Party Contest

On Shingle Hill in Williamsburg Ma

It's Quite A View From Shingle Hill

Rick (wa1wrk) found this location and thought it would be a fine place for a contest and not too far away from home.   So we got our gear together and made our way up into the cow pasture to set up our station.   That must be Mt Tom and Mt Holyoke on the horoizon.

A Cool and Windy Day

When we got there it was very windy. Here you see Ralph (wb1akt) setting up a tarp to give us a wind brake.  On the left is my van with the antennas on it.  That is Ralph's truck on the right and Rick's vehicle is behind the van.

The Wind Breaker

Here is another shot of Rick putting up our windbreaker. That Saturday evening must have been pretty windy.

The Bigger Picture

Old Friends Come To Visit

In this picture we have Ann, Vicky, Ralph (wa1uol) and Rick (wa1wrk).   Ralph says, "I remember hearing Mary wa0csl on 6m and trying to get you guys to swing the antenna towards North Dakota .... don't think we got her ..."

More Beer

Yours Truly

Yes, that's me wa1wrm.  don't let this picture fool you ...I did not do much of the contest work.  Both Rick and Ralph were the radio nuts.  I went because I like to do this sort of thing.  For radios you can see my Yaesu ft-221r 2 meter radio in front of me.  Further over on the right we have a borrowed 6 meter Yaesu 620 that belongs to our very generous friend Jim (wa1uwx) who came to visit us on Sunday.  On top of the 6 meter radio is my swr bridge which every competitor has to have.  See the headphones in front of the 6 meter rig?  Those cost me $3 at Teppers store back when I was 10.

Joe! Where Is The Beer?
