E-mail the school Principal!

From the Principal's desk....As we end the year 2000 and approach the first year of the new millennium we need to reflect on what we have accomplished and make plans for the new year. The year 2000 has been a busy one for JFK and many good things happened. We're blessed with good kids and, by any measure, these youngsters have made many positive achievements both academically and socially. Their academic successes are well documented through our honor rolls and academic awards which are published regularly in the papers and in this newsletter. Obviously, we're very proud of your childrens' academic successes since academics are the biggest part of our responsibility as teachers. However, another part of our job is to teach students responsibility and respect for each other, their families and their community. In this regard our staff has chosen a goal for this academic year that emphasizes respect and tolerance by all members of our school community. Anyone who has visited the building lately has seen evidence of this goal in the various signs posted around the building and hopefully by the actions modeled by our students and staff. Beginning in January, we intend to expand this goal through a new program called "Project Wisdom." To carry out the program's vision of building character, self esteem and community, we will be using weekly themes to emphasize specific responsibilities for all members of the JFK community. Staff and students will be invited to speak to the student body during homeroom period to make statements and pose questions that reflect the weekly theme. The themes will be published throughout the building and will be reinforced by the staff throughout the week. You will be hearing more about this program from your children beginning in January and through updates in this newsletter. We think this program will have a powerful, positive effect on all of us. Stay tuned for further updates and feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.

As we head toward the new millennium, we will be presented with many challenges. Let us plan to face each challenge presented with the idea that through our personal effort we can make a difference. We must set goals and commit to achieving these goals. In 2001, let us resolve to practice personal honesty through both our words and actions and show respect and tolerance for one another. Doing this will make 2001 a good year for JFK and pave the way for our journey into the 21st century. On behalf of the staff at JFK, I wish all members of the JFK family a happy and healthy New Year.
