What is CityKicks?
CityKicks! is Boston's first-ever after-school SOCCER league below
the high school level; for the vast majority of inner-Boston
youngsters it offers their only opportunity to play organized youth
soccer. We are in our second year of operation this fall.
Mission
To enrich the lives and enhance the futures of Boston's public school
children by engaging 6th, 7th and 8th graders constructively
after-school in a positive activity promoting self-esteem, teamwork
and fitness - through playing SOCCER.
Program
As we begin our second season this fall, eight middle schools plus two
community centers are fielding girls' teams. They practice once or
twice per week after school and play weekly games against each other.
In addition to soccer skills and teamwork, they learn about life
skills such as group cooperation, healthy choices and caring for one's
body.
Background
As the public is becoming increasingly aware, Boston school children
have far fewer opportunities than their suburban counterparts to
experience the many and varied benefits of participating in organized
recreational sports. You can team up with CityKicks! partners (such
as New England Revolution, the City of Boston, and Massachusetts Youth
Soccer Association) to help reverse this troubling trend by providing
a quality soccer-playing experience to Boston middle school children.
Few activities are better suited than “the world's favorite game” to
celebrate the multiculturalism that is one of Boston's strengths.
Soccer's universal appeal makes the game an excellent vehicle to
promote awareness, understanding and cooperation among children.
