Press Release for November 11, 2005 concert:
September 15, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Composers Concordance concert of Friday, November 11, 8PM at Christ & St. Stephen's Church, 120 W. 69th St.,
will feature composer/pianist David Del Tredici performing in his half-hour song cycle Chana's Story, with soprano
Re'ut Ben-Ze'ev, who returns from a world premiere of a new piece by Samuel Adler in Berlin. Like Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben,
the six songs in this cycle chronicle a tale of love, told from a woman's point of view. We are delighted to have David Del Tredici
with us as pianist this evening.
The insuppressible William Schimmel explores the many moods of Luciano Berio's Sequenza XIII on his accordion. Hints of chanson singing,
tango and street music connect the performer and listener to a new evocative appreciation of this versatile instrument.
New music virtuoso Madeleine Shapiro unites Orient and Occident and spoken word with musical thought in Zhou Long's solo cello piece Wild Grass.
Based upon the poetry of the revolutionary Chinese thinker Lu Hsun, this music gives a moment of thoughtful pause amidst the patter.
Composer and new music advocate Ted Wiprud breaks free from his musical influences in the Viola Sonata, a work where the mellow voice of the
viola soars to new resolve and rhapsodic variation: performed by Ralph Farris, viola and Jeanne Golan, piano.
In Hidden Reflection for saxophonist Styliani Tartsinis and pianist Yannis Xylas, the young Israeli/American composer Lior Navok has created a work
which expands the palette of the saxophone, both by using an expressive range of over three octaves and by alternating rhythms from the most regular to the frankly skewed.
Come join us and have fun! We've even lowered our ticket prices! $12/ $10 students, seniors. TDF accepted. More info at www.composersconcordance.org. 212-564-4899.
