the GOP has abandoned the idea of minimal government.
Recount over in Washington governor's race
[Dec. 29,
2004] LPNews - Washington's Libertarian candidate for governor in 2004,
Ruth Bennett, declared early and often that she was hoping to make the
Democrat candidate -- Christine Gregoire -- lose the election, thereby
allowing Dino Rossi to become the first Republican elected governor
since 1980 and showing the power of the Libertarian vote. Bennett
controlled more than 63,000 votes in what experts are calling the
closest statewide election in U.S. political history. But she evidently
did not draw quite enough Democrat votes to swing the election.

Eliminate -- don't privatize -- the plundering
[Dec. 17, 2004] LPNews - Social Security is among the most
tyrannical government programs under which the average wage earner must
suffer. And I don't know who is more pitiable, the average employee who
pays about 14 percent -- half of which is hidden because his employer
must fork it over, and therefore deduct it from what the employee could
otherwise earn -- or the self-employed worker, who has to cut the check
for that much himself. 14 percent. And we all know it won't be there
upon retirement, maybe not even for my parents' generation, and almost
certainly not for mine.
Libertarians cheer DC Council for rejecting stadium welfare
[Dec. 16,
2004] LPNews - The national Libertarian Party is saluting the
Washington, D.C., city council for torpedoing a "sports welfare" scheme
that would have built a new Major League Baseball stadium with taxpayer
funds. "Let’s play ball, but let’s play it with private money," said
Joseph Seehusen, executive director of the national Libertarian Party,
which is headquartered in Washington, DC. "It’s not every day that
Libertarians cheer our local government, but in this case the praise is
well-deserved. Let’s tear up this welfare check for baseball
millionaires."

national observance that was signed into practice by President Franklin
Roosevelt on Dec. 15, 1941, 150 years after the ratification of the
document by our forefathers in 1791. This day should remind all
Americans of their commitment to individual freedom. The day should
also remind politicians and bureaucrats that their power is limited --
that the government serves the citizens, and does not rule us.

the election.

percentage for a write-in candidate there.

Funding for the UN: Don't mend it; end it
[Dec. 3,
2004] LPNews - The ongoing scandal over the Oil-for-Food program should

Nations in the first place? No one should be surprised that the
Oil-for-Food program has been used to grease the palms of corrupt
politicians, because waste and fraud have long been rampant in the UN
bureaucracy.

No tax money: Massive monument takes shape without
government funds
[Nov. 29, 2004]
LPNews - In the Black Hills of South Dakota between Custer and Mount
Rushmore is a tremendous monument to history, tenacity,
self-sufficiency and libertarian ideals -- an in-progress sculpture
that is lauded as the largest sculpture in the world. The Crazy Horse
Memorial is being carved from this mountain, and in both size and
audacity it dwarfs the better-known Mount Rushmore, located just 17
miles to the northeast. One of the best parts of this monumental
undertaking is that only private money is involved in its development.

Successes of the Badnarik for president campaign
[Nov. 22,
2004] LPNews - As the dust settles from the 2004 presidential campaign,
it appears that Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik earned
approximately 400,000 votes, which would make his vote total the
fourth-highest in Libertarian Party history. According to USA Today,
the Washington Post and other major news sources, Badnarik had received
390,125 votes as of Nov. 20. However, Ballot Access News publisher

stories that retain both their intellectual worth and their
entertainment value well after their initial publication.

Ravet said.
Excess regulation cost is too high -- whether measured in
lives or in dollars
[Nov. 17, 2004] LPNews - Everyone is concerned about the
high cost of prescription drugs. Many of the proposed "solutions" to
high pharmaceutical costs, such as price and profit controls, would
cause manufacturers to cut back on the innovation which creates such
saving. In the long run, these "solutions" only address the symptoms,
not the underlying problem -- excess regulation.

Monday they raised more than $150,000 in four days, mostly in small
contributions.

The
Libertarian Vote Total
[Nov. 10, 2004] Harry
Browne - The Libertarian presidential campaign: For the past week,
small-l and large-L
libertarians have given their opinions on whether the Badnarik
campaign's vote total was
impressive or depressive. But I think they're missing the point. The
vote total should be the least of our concerns at this point, as I
argue in "The Libertarian Vote Total."
California
Libertarians move forward in attempt to eliminate
tax waste
[Nov.

the tax-increase measures the Libertarians opposed were defeated.
More

won
several elections on Election Day, adding to the dozens who were
elected or appointed to office earlier this year. "I think this

vote totals -- and in these cases, victory," Libertarian Party
executive director Joe Seehusen said.

which means we'll have a bigger platform in 2008," said Joseph

"If George Bush thinks these people have no place to go, he's in for a big surprise.
Republicans have abandoned small government ideals, Florida
Libertarian says
[Oct. 28,
2004] LPNews - What is a Libertarian candidate for
office to do when his opponent is an incumbent who can spend 30 times
as much on the campaign, when the incumbent is a Republican
in a Republican-dominated county, and when even the Democrats don't
bother running? One technique
is to battle the opponent on his own turf -- which in Libertarian Sean Concannon's race against a four-term incumbent Republican includes pointing out that the GOP candidate has not upheld his party's supposed "small government" ideals.
Libertarians plan Election Day petition drives
[Oct. 27, 2004] LPNews - Every four years, Libertarians in

State candidates who want to be listed in the pamphlet must submit
their information -- including a photo, a short write-up and a check
for $100 -- by July 22, and neither of Karpinski's opponents for the
office bothered to do so.

Free-market environmentalism
[Oct. 19, 2004] LPNews - In 2002, the state of Georgia gave
$28,146,687 in grants to counties and cities around the state, to be
used for the preservation of "green space." The assumption, of course,
is that tax money must be used for environmental preservation because
people won't otherwise protect their environment. But are such programs
really necessary? To hear bureaucrats and pro-big government
environmentalist cheerleaders tell the tale, you'd think Americans are
willing to sacrifice the earth's future for a few bucks.
The Million Worker March
[Oct. 19, 2004] GPNews - WASHINGTON, D.C. - A union is

of the 14th Amendment's guarantee that voters enjoy equal protection
and treatment in their representation by the Electoral College. In the

Success in Ohio for
Natural Law Party inspired Department of Peace
[Sep. 19, 2004] Natural Law Party News - SUCCESS in Ohio!
I am thrilled to announce that the Ohio Democratic Party voted today to
adopt the US Department of Peace in its state platform. This victory
was won through the dynamic efforts of the Ohio NLP.
This groundbreaking Peace proposal, which was drafted by Rep. Dennis
Kucinich with my input and wording from our NLP platform, calls for a
cabinet-level US Department of Peace, funded at 1% of the military
budget (or about $4 Billion per year)!
The US Department of Peace is designed to prevent violent conflict
through scientifically proven, peaceful approaches. It also includes
sponsorship for a University of World Peace, which will train
professional peacemakers in effective conflict-resolution and
peace-promoting skills. This is the ninth State Party to adopt this
resolution in the last few months, and we’re building momentum. The
funding of this US Department of Peace, when adopted by Congress, will
fulfill a core mission of the Natural Law Party.
According to Matt Trafis, Co-Director of the Kucinich for President
Campaign in Ohio, “Today’s triumph would never have happened without
the Natural Law Party.”
CONGRATULATIONS OHIO NLP!

percent of the state's $26 billion budget.

activism kills expansion of Florida eminent domain

R.

presidential
election is whether independent candidate Ralph Nader will be the

party candidate who could sway the electorate significantly enough to
