Alone at Norway

Carnes Racing was established approximately 3 years ago by my father and myself. We both have had a love for motorsports for as long as I can remember. Back when I was in High School we both supported a friend of my fathers as crew members for his Sports 2000 team, a spec class in the SCCA.

Three years ago a friend introduced me to Kart racing and I've been hooked ever since. The first Kart I bought was an older Coyote with a Briggs for the power plant. I found myself racing at Norway Speedway here in Illinois as well as a couple of smaller tacks. The first year was spent driving and learning and having an all around GREAT time. The second year wasn't nearly as good as my first, having only gotten out a few times and suffered from the old if it could break it would syndrome. Luckily my dad was around to keep my head up and we decided to start from scratch the next year with new equipment.

I got a good deal on a fresh Yamaha that came with everything I needed 'cept the chassis. After a lot of looking around I finally decided on a CRG Forza. Racing as I used to know it changed dramatically. With the new equipment I found myself in the hunt for the season championship at Norway Speedway in the Yamaha Sportsman class (SSX can). After my first full season and a lot more experience I ended up 2nd in season points.

This coming up season I'll once again start with fresh equipment including 2 Yamaha's and a new "prototype" CRG Heron chassis. This particular chassis is a 'dam kart', factory team kart, built for Brian Jacobson to run at Daytona. He never made it there so the kart has zero time on it. Can't wait to get it on the track. This year, '98, I'll be running in the pipe classes and plan on running my first national event when the Grand Nationals come to Norway. I also plan on visiting a lot of different tracks this season.

I would like to take a little space here to express my thanks to my Father and Brother who have always been there and my Family who has put up with my ever growing foundness for KART RACING! Thanks!!
