Everyone likes a good book.

Listed below are three sections: what we currently get, what we recommend as the cream of the crop, and what else is out there arranged by genre or age range. Please note that not all material is appropriate for children; as with anything you would find in Borders or Barnes & Noble, there is a wide range of genres, reading levels, and maturity levels.

TPBs you shouldn't live without:

If you like superheroes, then you should certainly track down (Teenagers):

  • Astro City: Life in the Big City (DC/Wildstorm/Homage)
  • Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (DC)
  • Squadron Supreme (Marvel)
  • Watchmen (DC/Vertigo)
  • X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga (Marvel)
  • X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills (Marvel)

If your tastes run more to humor or fantasy or horror, then try these non-spandex titles and collections:

All Ages (generally humor, light fantasy, light adventure):

  • Asterix [especially The Twelve Tasks] (Hodder-Dargaud)
  • Bone (Cartoon Books)
  • Gon [any collection] (DC/Paradox)
  • Leave it to Chance (Image/Homage)
  • Tintin [any collection] (Little, Brown)
  • What's Michael? [any collection] (Dark Horse)
  • A Wizard's Tale (Image/Homage)

Teenagers (generally humor, fantasy, science fiction, conspiracies):

  • The Big Book of ... [series of collections] (DC/Paradox)
  • The Cowboy Wally Show (Publisher's Group West)
  • Oh My Goddess! (Dark Horse)
  • Ranma 1/2 (Viz)
  • Star Wars (Dark Horse)

Older Teenagers (based upon real-life events):

Mature Readers (generally adult relationships, politics, horror, mythology):

  • V for Vendetta (DC/Vertigo)

There's a great page just for trade paperbacks and graphic novels called GraphicNovels.com. You can look by genre, check out a few interviews, and even purchase books online. Check it out! You may also want to pop over to http://bookshelf.diamondcomics.com/ to see reviews for tons of TPBs, generally arranged according to genre and interest/age level.
