Meet the Technicians
Lisa Forsythe-Kane
Hi! I'm Lisa Forsythe-Kane, one of the three licensed technicians at South Putnam Animal Hospital. I have been a Yorktown resident for over 40 years and yes I am that old! In 1976 I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in Agriculture and followed that with an A.S. in Veterinary Health Technology from Harcum Jr. College in Bryn. Mawr, PA. I was among one of the first groups of technicians to be licensed in New York.
While being trained as a large animal technician, I have always worked with small animals. After working for 8 years and taking 10 years off to raise 2 children, Phillip and Alix. I returned to practice at South Putnam Animal Hospital in 1996.
What a different role the Veterinary Technician plays now compared to the early 80's. Our services are more widely utilized and we interact more with clients, seeing appointments for bloodwork, pedicures, dental checks and suture removals. We are also responsible for analyzing all the stool, urine, ear cytology's and running our in house blood chemistry analyzer. Besides my usual duties, I am responsible for inventory and monitoring of controlled drugs, hospital maintenance and maintaining the X-Ray monitoring devices.
Besides the human inhabitants of our house, we have 15 cats and 3 dogs. We were very fortunate to have Vesta, the 1st Guiding Eyes puppy that Dr. Kosacz raised, come into our lives. She opted for a career change and is a wonderful patient companion for my daughter who is differently abled. Vesta is also a certified therapy dog as is Maude one of the two Border Terriers, the other being her littermate, Grinch.
Then there are my kitties, the majority of whom have come into my life since I joined South Putnam Animal Hospital. Too numerous to list, they are an eclectic group and all have their own story to tell. Oz, a black munchkin cat (he has very short legs), is a therapy animal along with Maude and Vesta. His forte is visiting nursing homes as he likes nothing better than being a couch potato in someone's lap.
Well, that's my story in a nut shell. My 7 years at South Putnam Animal Hospital have been challenging and rewarding and I am privileged to be part of this team.
Irene Baier L.V.T.
Hi! I'm Irene. I joined South Putnam Animal Hospital in 1997 as the "new" Veterinary Technician, although I've been licensed for 12 years now. Need answers to questions? I always seek new ways to be informative and helpful to our clients regarding their pets.
I have a Cairn Terrier named Molly who was born in May 2000. Since we are now safely out of our "puppyhood", I can relate to all of you who are just beginning life with a puppy and dealing with behavior issues!
Being a full-time employee and a mother of two, I consider myself a Veterinary Technician, team player, teacher, homemaker, wife, mother, part-time chef and big question-answer box. Need an answer to a pet question? Give me a call and I'll do my best to give you an answer.
Come join us at South Putnam Animal Hospital - I am sure you will feel as satisfied and rewarded as I do, being on the SPAH team.
Teresa DeAngelis
Hi! I am Teresa. For as far back as I can remember I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. That dream led me to volunteer at South Putnam Animal Hospital when I was 12 years old. At age 14, I was hired as a veterinary assistant and have been here ever since! As a veterinary assistant, I am your pet's best friend when they visit the animal hospital. While the doctor and technician treat him or her I hold and comfort your pet. If your pet is hospitalized or your cat is boarding, it is my job to make sure they are comfortable, exercised and fed. But the best part of my job is giving lots of TLC to all of our visitors so that they feel that SPAH is a home away from home.
Currently, I am studying veterinary technology at a local college and will be continuing on to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician specializing in animal behavior.
My pet is Anderson, a handsome siamese-colored bunny.. Basically, he is a good little bunny and even comes when you call him, although, he does have a dark side. Whenever you enter the kitchen, he gets perfectly still and stares at every move you make....stalking you... kind of creepy until you realize that he is just trying to get you to give him some food. Just my luck, I get a bunny with a bottom-less pit.
