Co-founder of International Social Survey Program (ISSP) -- with Roger Jowell (SCPR London), James Davis, Peter Rossi, and Tom Smith (NORC Chicago/GSS) and Jonathan Kelley (Australia National University, Canberra) in 1983. The first in a series of modular questionnaires to be used (repeatedly) in conjunction with general social surveys in different nations ran in 1985. By 2002, 38 nations have joined ISSP.
Co-founder (with Helmut Wilke) and head of program committee of an international conference on applications of statistic software in 1982 and 1983 with participation of major software vendors such SPSS, SAS, etc. The conference was later named  'SoftStat' and held biannually (last 1997) in Germany.
