He married Evelyn Mae Garner in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia, November 5, 1938. (Evelyn Mae Garner is #1809.) Evelyn was born in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia March 13, 1915. Evelyn is the daughter of Wesley T. Garner and Rosa Shaar Garner.

Cary Irvin (Hap) Nicholas and Evelyn Mae Garner had the following child:

3 i. Barbara Rose³ Nicholas (#1811) was born in Lynchburg, Lynchburg, Virginia December 7, 1946. She married Harold Woodrow Woody in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia, September 25, 1965. (Harold Woodrow Woody is #1812.) Harold was born June 23, 1946. Harold is the son of Woodrow Wilson Woody and Dorothy Miller Woody. (See Harold Woodrow Woody for the continuation of this line.)
